TITLE: STRATEGIC READING INTERVENTIONIST
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Master’s degree preferred from an accredited college or university.
- Reading Specialist, Special Education, Reading endorsement or related field/experience preferred.
- 3-5 years teaching experience.
- Experience or training in foundational reading, adolescent literacy, intervention, or instructional reading strategies.
- AIM reading training or LETRS training preferred.
REPORTS TO: High School Principals
PRIMARY FUNCTION:
The Strategic Reading Interventionist will design and deliver instruction focused on improving students’ reading skills. The interventionist will use explicit and systematic instruction in reading strategies to support student skill development in the big five areas of reading.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
Up and down motion in the office; bending stretching; and lifting up to 40 pounds. Mobility in and around office/school area.
PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Deep understanding and knowledge in the science of reading and progression of reading skills.
- Knowledge of MTSS, reading assessments, and data-informed instruction.
- Ability to build strong, supportive relationships with struggling readers.
- Thorough understanding of curriculum and evidence-based practices in reading instruction.
- Design and implement instruction that supports readers in grades 9–12 who need strategic, scaffolded support.
- Use data (screening tools, diagnostic assessments, classroom observations) to differentiate instruction based on student needs.
- Teach research-based reading strategies such as summarizing, predicting, questioning, clarifying, visualizing, and making inferences.
- Integrate vocabulary development, fluency practice, and comprehension routines into daily instruction.
- Collaborate with content-area teachers to support transfer of strategies across disciplines.
- Track student progress and communicate growth with students, families, and team members.
- Contribute to the development and refinement of the Strategic Reading course curriculum.
TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:
Length of contract: 180 days
EVALUATION PROCEDURE:
This position will be evaluated annually by the High School Principal(s).
