TITLE:                       Library/Media Aide (Full Time)

 

QUALIFICATIONS:

 

  1. Ability to accomplish duties with a high degree of accuracy and neatness appropriate to library work.
  2. Is equipped with a high level of perseverance.
  3. Has knowledge of or is willing and able to become informed of ALA rules for alphabetizing, the Dewey Decimal System of Classification, operation of the Follette Library System, and the appropriate knowledge of the card catalog, Reader’s Guide to Periodical Literature and general knowledge of the collection.

 

REPORTS TO:         Reports to the librarian with evaluation by the building principal.

 

PRIMARY FUNCTION:

 

To assist the librarian in the operation, supervision and maintenance of the library program, providing support and help for teachers and supervising and assisting students.

PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:

 

  1. Receiving equipment and print and non-print materials by assisting in with the unpacking and checking of new materials and equipment and verifying invoices, inventorying (assigning an accession number), and recording and stamping periodicals.
  2. Process books for use by stamping with identification stamp, adding date due slip, adding call number, adding bar code, covering the book if necessary, making a catalog card for the shelf file, and entering information into the Follette System.
  3. Prepare non-print material for use by adding an accession number, call number, bar code, making a catalog card for the shelf file, and entering information into the Follette System.
  4. Routine daily jobs to include checking materials in and out, shelving, filing, typing, printing and distributing lists of overdue materials, adding to vertical file or weeding (clippings, pamphlets, pictures), locating stored periodicals for students and faculty.
  5. Assist in maintaining library in order so that books and nonprint materials may be readily located and used.
  6. Remove from shelves and files books and other materials which need to be repaired, remarked, rebound or discarded.
  7. Help with preparing books for bindery __ sending and receiving.
  8. Help with minor repair and adjustment of audiovisual equipment.
  9. Assist in the use of computer equipment by adding paper and changing ink cartridges.
  10. Help maintain cumulative records of condition and maintenance work on equipment.
  11. Maintain list of overdue and missing materials
  12. Helps call in materials and equipment on loan when required elsewhere.
  13. Help with reserving and delivering materials and equipment.
  14. Help check lists and bibliographies to determine whether materials listed are available.
  15. Read shelves and puts them in order.
  16. Help reorganize and relocate materials as needed.
  17. Help assemble, maintain and disassemble reserve collections as needed.
  18. Copy materials for use in instruction in the use of the library.
  19. Assist with bulletin board displays.
  20. Assist in setting up and taking down equipment to be used by students in the library.
  21. Assist in maintaining schedules of class activities in the library and in maintaining records of materials and activities used.
  22. Work at all times to help maintain discipline and order when supervising and assisting students.

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:

 

Length of contract is 9 months.  Workday hours are 7:30 a.m. - 3:30 p.m. with a 30 minute lunch hour break (7.5 hours per day).  Salary is determined by the district’s teacher aide’s salary schedule and experience. All benefits coincide with those in the master agreement.
