TITLE:                      SPEECH LANGUAGE THERAPIST

 

QUALIFICATIONS:

  1. Must be licensed or able to achieve licensure in the state of South Dakota as a speech language therapist. ASHA Certificate of clinical competence (CCCs) desired.
  2. Must be able to perform all the performance responsibilities listed in job description
  3. Must be able to pass all required background checks in accordance with state law and district policy

 

REPORTS TO:         Building Principal, Director of Special Services

 

PRIMARY FUNCTION:

Identify, evaluate and provide speech language therapies to children in the district who are identified as being in need of speech and/or language services due to an identified disability.

 

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

Move around the building, ability to carry 30-40 pounds, frequent lifting, sitting, stooping, standing, and bending. Frequent keyboarding and repetitive motion with wrists, hands and fingers.  Must be able to physically support students using approved methods. This work includes sitting and standing for longer periods of time, and being physically active throughout the day.

 

 

PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILTIES:

 

  1. Participate in the child find process for students suspected of being in need for special education services,
  2. Conduct comprehensive evaluations of students referred for speech/language/hearing services in accordance with district special education procedures,
  3. Coordinate and/or participate in various building, department and staff meetings as well as meetings to address student evaluation and determination of services for students evaluated by or receiving therapy from the speech therapist.
  4. Schedule and provide direct speech language therapy services for those students in need of speech and/or language services.
  5. Initiate and conduct student reevaluations and complete ongoing progress monitoring of students in therapy setting.
  6. Complete all pertinent paperwork for the special education process.
  7. Communicate effectively with administration, staff, parents and students in the course of work completion.
  8. Demonstrate professionalism, advocacy and confidentiality in all aspects of the position.
  9. Maintains continuous licensure and remains in good standing with state board of licensure.
  10. Perform other duties as assigned

 

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:  Employee follow district adopted calendar, with 175 contact days and 3 in-service days

 

 

EVALUATION PROCEDURE:

This position is responsible to the building principal and Director of Special Services, and is evaluated by the principal.
