TITLE:                      BUS DRIVER

QUALIFICATIONS:

1. Must have a valid Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) in the State of South Dakota. Must submit to drug and alcohol testing per state and federal statutes.
2. Possess personal communication skills and an ability to work with a diversion of individuals.
3. Must have proper medical certification as required by the Brookings School District, the Department of Education and Cultural Affairs and the state of South Dakota.
4. Background checks required for final candidates.
5. Must have an exemplary driver record.
6. Such other qualifications to the above requirements that the board may find acceptable and appropriate.

REPORTS TO:         Director of Transportation

PRIMARY FUNCTION:   

The bus driver is responsible for transportation in a safe, orderly and timely fashion, to and from school or school related activities.

PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:

1. To transport students to and from school or school related activities in safe and timely fashion.
2. Must consistently comply with Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) requirements.
3. To maintain a log and report on each trip.
4. Must consistently comply with traffic and driving laws.
5. To maintain order and control of all passengers on the bus or other school vehicle.
6. To keep the bus (or other school vehicle) in clean and proper order.
7. To check the motor, tires and other necessary equipment on a scheduled basis for safe operation, and report any problems to the transportation director.
8. Additional duties that may be required or assigned.

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:

The Board shall offer a letter of agreement with wages and benefits to be determined as delineated in the Classified Employee Handbook subject to the approval of the superintendent or his/her designee and the Brookings School Board.  Hours and time schedules to be determined by the Director of Transportation with the approval of the superintendent or his/her designee.

EVALUATION PROCEDURE:

This position is responsible to the Director of Transportation and performance of this position will be evaluated by the Director of Transportation.
