TITLE: Behavior Interventionist (Special Education)
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Minimum two years post-secondary education
- Minimum of 3 years’ experience working with individuals with behavior challenges
- Pass all employment screenings
- Possess the ability and desire to continue education or training in the field of special education
REPORTS TO: Building Principal and Director of Special Services
PRIMARY FUNCTION:
Team lead working to ensure students with behavior challenges receive appropriate services and support throughout their school day.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
Requires hearing, hand-eye coordination; ability to carry 30-40 pounds; frequent lifting, sitting, stooping, standing, and bending; frequent keyboarding and repetitive motion with wrists, hands and fingers; implementation of de-escalation and physical management of students.
PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Participates in the creation, implementation, and revision of student behavior programs and Individualized Education Programs (IEPs)
- Model and teach specialized strategies and techniques (social stories, peer facilitation, peer training, etc.) to staff and students
- Assist in the implementation of reinforcement according to the IEP and behavior intervention plans
- Model instructional and behavior management techniques
- Collect, graph, maintain, and report data on behavior and achievement goals
- Prepare and adapt instructional materials and behavior plans, administer tests, correct papers, record grades
- Complete Incident Reports when necessary
- Attendance at all mandatory meetings and trainings
- Establish and maintain home-school communication, including progress reports and other documentation
- Provide individual or small group instruction and support to students
- Supervise students throughout the building, school grounds, and special activity trips
- Maintain professional boundaries with learners, teachers, and families
- Provide crisis response
- Conduct observations
- Provide input to therapists, specialists, and teachers on student performance, progress, and behavior
- Supervise and guide support staff working with specific students
- Performs other duties as assigned
TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:
Full time based on a school calendar. Salary starting at $40,000. Benefits provided. Contract 188 days.
EVALUATION PROCEDURE:
This position will be evaluated by the building principal and director of special education. |
