TITLE: BUS DRIVER
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Must have a valid Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) in the State of South Dakota. Must submit to drug and alcohol testing per state and federal statutes.
- Possess personal communication skills and an ability to work with a diversion of individuals.
- Must have proper medical certification as required by the Brookings School District, the Department of Education and Cultural Affairs and the state of South Dakota.
- Background checks required for final candidates.
- Must have an exemplary driver record.
- Such other qualifications to the above requirements that the board may find acceptable and appropriate.
REPORTS TO: Director of Transportation
PRIMARY FUNCTION:
The bus driver is responsible for transportation in a safe, orderly and timely fashion, to and from school or school related activities.
PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:
- To transport students to and from school or school related activities in safe and timely fashion.
- Must consistently comply with Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) requirements.
- To maintain a log and report on each trip.
- Must consistently comply with traffic and driving laws.
- To maintain order and control of all passengers on the bus or other school vehicle.
- To keep the bus (or other school vehicle) in clean and proper order.
- To check the motor, tires and other necessary equipment on a scheduled basis for safe operation, and report any problems to the transportation director.
- Additional duties that may be required or assigned.
TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:
The Board shall offer a letter of agreement with wages and benefits to be determined as delineated in the Classified Employee Handbook subject to the approval of the superintendent or his/her designee and the Brookings School Board. Hours and time schedules to be determined by the Director of Transportation with the approval of the superintendent or his/her designee.
EVALUATION PROCEDURE:
This position is responsible to the Director of Transportation and performance of this position will be evaluated by the Director of Transportation.
