TITLE: Learner Support Teacher on Special Assignment (TOSA)
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Bachelor's degree
- Teaching and/or leadership experience in a school setting demonstrating use and implementation of successful learner behavior management strategies.
- Valid South Dakota teaching license
REPORTS TO: High School Principals
PRIMARY FUNCTION:
The Learner Support Teacher on Special Assignment (TOSA) will work closely with the principals, school personnel and learners to build and maintain a positive, safe school climate.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
Up and down motion in the office; bending; stretching; and lifting up to 40 pounds. Mobility in and around office/school area. Constant hand-eye and mind-eye coordination. Frequent walking, keyboarding, speaking, writing, bending, carrying, pushing, pulling, sitting, reaching, stooping, and turning.
PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Knowledge of positive behavioral interventions and support
- Knowledge of creating and implementing student behavior expectations
- Knowledge of conflict resolution strategies
- Knowledge of state policy and laws affecting the management of student behaviors
- Ability to build positive relationships with learners, staff, parents and community members
- Collaborates and communicate effectively with key stakeholders through a variety of methods
- Provides leadership of behavior management and supervision
- Facilitates the resolution of conflict
- Plan, organize and manage time and resources
- Manage and enforce school behavioral expectations, including attendance classroom alignment with school-wide goals.
- Confer with learners, parents, and teachers regarding student related policies.
- Assist staff with the creation and alignment of classroom learner behavioral expectations and classroom management plans.
- Serve as a resource to staff regarding learners management issues.
- Create and coordinate education alternatives for learners in need.
- Collaborate with staff, administrators, and parents through the response to intervention process.
- Assist in the planning, developing, and implementation of student behavior plans.
- Confer with learners and administer appropriate consequences.
- Openly communicate with staff and parents/guardians regarding learner behavior.
- Collaborate with the school counselor and personnel to create and maintain research-based behavioral interventions and trains faculty and staff in those interventions.
- Manage the documentation of learners behavior through the student management system
- Attend appropriate meetings regarding learners (parent meetings, expulsion hearings, IEPs, 504s, etc).
- Assist in the maintenance of the crisis management plan and school safety requirements.
- Compile, analyze, and share learner discipline data regularly, and use that data to make decisions.
- Assist administration with creation and implementation of 504 plans.
TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:
The contract will consist of 180 days and will follow the master agreement.
EVALUATION PROCEDURE:
This position is responsible to the High School Principal and the performance of this position will be evaluated yearly.
